Actions Speak Loudest: 8 Ways to Express Love to Your Kids Without Words
In 1991, the song "More than Words" soared to #1
It reminded us of a universal truth, actions speak louder than words
And words are not enough to express love
So here are 8 ways to show your kids you love them without words
Quality time: The #1 thing your kid wants from you is your time. Plan on dedicated one-on-one time with each of your child engaging in activities they enjoy. Even just 10 mins of one-on-one can make a huge difference, mood, and feelings of security.
Help when it's not expected: Most kids have chores around the house or homework. Help your child with tasks or chores they may find challenging or overwhelming. Especially, if they are having a tough day or something big has happened.
Surprise notes or gifts: Leave little notes or small surprises for your child to find, expressing your love and appreciation. I love sending notes to my kids in their snack boxes at gymnastics class but you can sneak letters into their pillows or in their shoes. Watch their eyes light up!
Active listening: Few people really listen to kids. Want your kids to feel on top of the world? Listen attentively to your child's thoughts, feelings, and concerns without judgment.
Support their interests: Go to those soccer games & dance recitals! Encourage and support your child's hobbies and interests, showing genuine enthusiasm.
Create traditions: Establish family traditions or rituals that strengthen your bond and create lasting memories. Find something unique to YOUR family. Something that feels special just to you. Bonus if you let your kids help plan it.
Celebrate achievements: Celebrate your child's accomplishments, no matter how big or small.
Respect and trust: This one may seem obvious but if you ever sit back and listen… I mean really listen to how parents talk to their kids, you might come away quite sad. Treat your child with respect and trust. Show them that you value their thoughts and opinions.
