✨It’s important to me that my kids enjoy math.
It’s one of those subjects most people just “get through,” but math can be truly beautiful. Even better, it’s one of the easiest subjects to make fun through games. And when kids play, they’re also learning to do mental math, reason through problems, and build real-world number sense.
One of my favorite resources is Math for Love. They offer a ton of FREE math games on their website. Most need nothing more than a pencil and paper. I started using their games just for fun last year, and my kids lit up. We STILL play several of them in the car, at my kids’ request
They also make a board game for purchase called Prime Climb, which I highly recommend for kids in 4th grade and up—or any child who understands the basics of multiplication and division. They don’t need full fact fluency yet—the game actually helps build that—but they do need to grasp the concepts.
Why Prime Climb is special
Prime Climb uses the fundamental theorem of arithmetic and turns it into a stunning color-based visual system. It’s beautiful, memorable, and smart. Here’s a video of the creator describing it.
I’ve also used their Multiplication by Heart cards and am a big fan. They also teach the underlying structure of numbers in a way that sticks just like prime climb. The Addition by Heart cards aren’t my favorite—mainly because they don’t reinforce subtraction—but the rest of their materials are quite good.
Math should be a joy. Even if your child struggles with the day-to-day, find ways to let them delight in math through games, puzzles, and beauty.
👉 I have no affiliation with Math for Love and don’t make any money from sharing this. These are just things I use and love, and I hope they’ll bless your homeschool too.
